Principal Secretary for Special Programs Ms. Josephta Mukobe pledges her support for the disabled during Dr. Ribeiro Parklands Primary School’s 10-year Cerebral Palsy Unit celebrations.<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n

In a colourful ceremony graced by the Permanent Secretary for Special Programmes Ms. Josephta Mukobe and nominated Member of Parliament Hon. Isaac Mwaura, the KenGen Foundation joined Dr. Ribeiro Parklands Primary School to celebrate their 10 year Cerebral Palsy Unit Anniversary and the launch of the school\u2019s website on 28 July.<\/p>\n

Dr. Ribeiro Parklands Primary School, a neighbour to KenGen headquarters office is the first school in Kenya to introduce a Celebral Palsy Unit for inclusive education.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople with disabilities face a lot of challenges\u201d, said Ms. Mukobe. \u201cParents and teachers play a big role in moulding students with disabilities to face the world. <\/p>\n

Let us all join hands to help this school make the lives of the students meaningful\u201d, she urged the participants.<\/p>\n

The Head Teacher, Mrs. Rose Mureu started the unit in 2006 after a teacher in the school had an 8-year old child with Cerebral Palsy who couldn\u2019t find a school due to her condition. Mrs. Mureu felt compassionate towards the family, and the child was the first student in the special unit.<\/p>\n

\u201cEducation is great equalizer\u201d, said Hon. Mwaura. \u201cIn our call to serve humanity, we should remember that children with disabilities are not from a lesser God. I dream of the day when Cerebral Palsy will not be an obstacle to achieving greatness.<\/p>\n

Personally, I commit to ensure that this school becomes a Center of Excellence for children with Cerebral Palsy\u201d, he pledged.<\/p>\n

\u201cKenGen has supported the school and the Cerebral Palsy unit in various ways including the setting up of a play pen for the children which has since been moved to allow the expansion of the road\u201d, said the Head Teacher Mrs. Mureu. \u201cKenGen has also helped build us one classroom, and we are forever grateful for this\u201d.<\/p>\n

Since starting the Cerebral Palsy unit 10 years ago, demand has increased and currently, the school has 100 special students. KenGen is currently sponsoring a student from the school through high school.<\/p>\n

During the occasion the Foundation brought refreshments for the students.<\/p>\n
