23 secondary schools students and 25 university students are the new beneficiaries of the KenGen Education Scholarships program after they were presented with the awards in a colourful ceremony held at Starehe Boys Centre on 25 April. This is the twelfth batch that KenGen has awarded education scholarships.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe shall continue raising the bar of Kenyan education …”, Mr. Joshua Choge, Chairman KenGen<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n

Hosted by the KenGen Foundation, the scholarships awards ceremony was graced by the presence of KenGen\u2019s Chairman of the Board of Directors Mr. Joshua Choge, and the Company\u2019s MD & CEO Eng. Albert Mugo. Also present was KenGen Foundation\u2019s Managing Trustee Mike Njeru, the Director Startehe Boys Centre Mr. Charles Masheti and the CEO of Peak Performance James Gitau.<\/p>\n

The chief guest, Chairman of the Board of Directors, KenGen, Joshua Choge, congratulated the recipients and said that it was the utmost duty of the company to ensure the safeguarding of gains made from universal primary education through the enhancement of access to both secondary and university levels.<\/p>\n

“…actual work towards achieving and realising the goals set out lie with the individual…”, Eng. Albert Mugo, MD & CEO KenGen.<\/p><\/div>\n

\u201cAs KenGen, we have, and will continue to undertake the expansion of access to education by availing the resources that we possibly can\u201d, he said. \u201cWe shall continue raising the bar of Kenyan education by assisting in improving structures that enhance the learning institutions as well as seek to increase the number of scholarships slots in all areas that we offer\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n

Addressing the beneficiaries of the scholarships, the MD & CEO reiterated that \u201cWhile it is KenGen that gives out these scholarships, the actual work towards achieving and realising the goals set out lie with the individual who are encouraged to take full advantage of the program. We strive to ensure that the scholarships are offered to only those who deserve\u201d.<\/p>\n

The KenGen Education Scholarships Awards takes place during the KenGen Foundation Annual Mentorship, a 4-day program for current scholarships beneficiaries aimed at guiding them into becoming academic giants, while at the same time encouraging the discovery of talents and nurturing of life skills to provide for a balanced approach in achieving transformational leadership.<\/p>\n

Opinion leaders, motivational speakers, and distinguished achievers of the various industries engage the students in group lectures, interactive meetings, and team building exercises. This year Wilson Kamau, Wangeci Mwangi, James Obondo and Bethwel Ogwayo, KenGen staff were included in the mentoring program through the KenGen Employee Giver Initiative.<\/p>\n

Guest performing artist Collo gave a thrilling performance culminating with the gospel hit song \u2018Bazokizo\u2019, which had the crowd dancing and swaying to the beat.<\/p>\n

The KenGen Education Scholarship program offers learning opportunities for bright needy secondary and university students selected from the communities living near the Company\u2019s power installations. The scholarships offer the beneficiaries opportunities to achieve academic excellence while at the same time opening doors to great careers and better futures. Currently the program has 91 secondary school students and 90 university students.<\/p>\n
