Foundation Contributes to Imani Christian School during Seven Forks Half Marathon

In a spirited show of corporate citizenship, the KenGen Foundation—the philanthropic arm of Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC—joined hands with local communities and other stakeholders at the Imani Seven Forks Half Marathon 2025, held on October 11. The event, staged in the heart of Kenya’s Hydro Region, aimed to raise funds for Imani Christian School, which serves orphaned and vulnerable children in the area.

The Foundation contributed KSh 300,000 to support the construction of vital infrastructure at the school, including a modern administration block, a CBC-compliant science laboratory, and additional junior classrooms. These facilities are expected to enhance learning outcomes and provide a safe, inclusive environment for children who face socioeconomic challenges. Beyond education, the marathon also championed youth empowerment, environmental stewardship, and community cohesion.

“Our support for the Imani Seven Forks Half Marathon reflects our deep commitment to transforming lives through sustainable development,” said Anthony Igecha, Managing Trustee of the KenGen Foundation. “By investing in education and community infrastructure, we are laying the groundwork for long-term impact and resilience.”

The Foundation’s Principle Fundraising Officer Ambrose Njagi and Elishibah Msengeti, Principle Programmes Officer, managed to complete the 10km and 5km races respectfully, with the overall winner of the 21km stretch being….

Established to implement KenGen PLC’s Corporate Social Investment efforts, the KenGen Foundation focuses on initiatives that align with the company’s sustainability strategy. Its core pillars—education and environmental conservation—mirror Kenya’s Vision 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The Foundation works closely with communities near KenGen’s power installations to foster inclusive growth and ecological balance.

The Seven Forks Hydro Region, home to a cascade of dams along the Tana River, has long been central to Kenya’s energy production. KenGen’s presence in the area dates back decades, and its operations have shaped both the landscape and livelihoods. Through the Foundation, KenGen continues to honor its responsibility by investing in community-driven projects that promote social equity, environmental health, and sustainable development.
