Foundation Backs Mvuke School Feeding Program Ahead of National Exams

In a show of corporate social responsibility, the KenGen Foundation has donated Ksh. 200,000 to Mvuke Comprehensive School in Nakuru County to support its school feeding program. The contribution, made on October 15, comes just weeks before Kenya’s national KPSEA and KJSEA examinations, offering timely support to Grade 6 and Grade 9 candidates preparing for their final assessments.

The donation was initiated following a request by Ms. Faith Kihara, Chair of the School Board and Assistant Human Resource Manager at KenGen’s Olkaria station. It was formally presented by KenGen Foundation Managing Trustee Anthony Igecha, who was joined by Principal Fundraising Officer Ambrose Njagi, Principal Programmes Officer Elishibah Msengeti, and Senior Communications Officer Ernest Nyamasyo.

The initiative underscores KenGen Foundation’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education. By providing access to nutritious meals during high-pressure exam periods, the Foundation aims to remove hunger as a barrier to academic success for students from vulnerable backgrounds.

“This donation is more than a meal—it’s a message that every child deserves a fair shot at success,” Mr. Igecha said. “We view education as a cornerstone of sustainable development, and our support aligns directly with SDG 4.”

Ms. Kihara added, “Our learners face many challenges, but hunger shouldn’t be one of them. KenGen’s support is a lifeline—and a vote of confidence in their potential.”

KenGen PLC continues to invest in education through its scholarship program, which targets bright but financially disadvantaged students living near its power stations. The program supports both secondary and university-level education, aiming to build a skilled and patriotic workforce capable of driving Kenya’s transformation into a middle-income economy by 2030.

The scholarship initiative seeks to empower beneficiaries to achieve holistic education and become exemplary citizens contributing to national development. As part of its broader sustainability strategy, KenGen fosters shared value with communities through its social investment arm, the KenGen Foundation, which focuses on education and environmental conservation.

In addition to financial support, the Foundation runs an annual mentorship program for scholarship recipients. These sessions offer academic counseling and career guidance, delivered through motivational and practical exercises designed to foster peer relationships, networking, and the exchange of ideas.
